How do you get your teenagers in the holiday spirit? I know, it’s hard. Sometimes teens can be a bit grumpy or judgemental of the things that used to be fun for them as a kid. Santa no longer exists, and the toys they used to ask for have become video games and gift cards. But, with the help of El Yucateco Hot Sauce, today I was able to come up with an idea that brought my son and his closest friends together for the holiday season.
We’ve all seen shows on YouTube where celebrities are in tears over eating super hot chicken wings. My son always comments and laughs about those videos, so we decided to do something a bit different and host a Holiday Hot Sauce party!
I knew El Yucateco was the perfect brand for our party because they’re the #1 selling habanero hot sauce in the United States! Their sauces are made from the whole fruit of the pepper and they’re non-vinegar based. That translates into great tasting hot sauces that don’t over-power food flavors, and nobody’s going to end up crying because the sauces are intolerably hot.
I set the party up with a fun game to be the main event. I placed and numbered all 13 flavors of El Yucateco’s product line on the table with 13 numbered foods. The foods were all hidden under cups, and there were lots of great bites like mini tacos, eggrolls, mac n cheese balls and grilled chicken wings. But what the boys didn’t know was that there were also foods that DIDN’T pair well with hot sauces (or so we thought) like chocolate chip cookies, gummy candy and chocolate covered peanut butter cups! The boys would have to pick two numbers from a bucket and pair the food and hot sauces together that matched the corresponding numbers.
My son went first and got a delicious match with mac n cheese balls, paired with a classic Chile Habanero Hot Sauce. But things got intense quickly. One of the other boys had to pair gummy candies with El Yucateco’s Habanero Coffee Hot Sauce, while one of the others had to pair raw broccoli (something NO teen boy wants to eat) with El Yucateco’s hottest flavor, Habanero Ghost Hot Sauce. He ended up licking the hot sauce off the broccoli and throwing the broccoli over his shoulder!
There were some big surprise pairings too! ALL the boys liked the chocolate chip cookies paired with various hot sauces, and my favorite, the Habanero and Grilled Pineapple Hot Sauce paired well with EVERYTHING on the table (even the raw broccoli)! None of the hot sauces were disliked or too hot, and after the game was over, the boys KILLED about 3 pounds of grilled chicken wings while they kept mixing the various hot sauces, comparing flavors and coming up with new flavor combinations!
It made me SO HAPPY to be able to get these boys in the holiday spirit and bring them together through food and El Yucateco. I got several texts from moms after the party letting me know that the boys couldn’t stop talking about all the fun they had, and that they really did like all the foods and hot sauces.
If you’re looking for a super fun holiday game that pleases even the toughest teenage guests, I highly recommend going to your local grocery store, or www.shopelyucateco.com and getting yourself a slew of sauces for a Holiday Hot Sauce party!
